SPINALL releases 7th studio album EKO GROOVE

Nigerian DJ and producer SPINALL has unveiled his highly anticipated seventh studio album, Eko Groove, out now via TheCAP Music and streaming on all major platforms. A vibrant celebration of Lagos, the project blends Afrobeats, amapiano, reggae, and global influences into a 14-track body of work already igniting dancefloors worldwide.

The rollout built anticipation from August 9, when SPINALL teased the album with striking visuals showcasing Lagos’ bustling streets and his international tour highlights, a nod to the “Eko energy” at the album’s core. Early singles like Early featuring Victony and Excited with Ami Faku, Heavy-K, and Niniola set the tone, while news of guest appearances from Wizkid, Summer Walker, and Buju Banton heightened excitement.

Across its 48-minute runtime, Eko Groove takes listeners on a rhythmic journey. The opener and title track, featuring Ayinde Bakare, sets a celebratory tone, while Struggle with Summer Walker, Buju Banton, and Jaz Karis adds soulful weight. Contributions from Wizkid, Niniola, and Teni showcase SPINALL’s seamless ability to merge local authenticity with global polish, underscoring his reputation as a curator of cross-continental sounds.

Since his 2015 debut My Story, SPINALL—born Oluseye Desmond Sodamola—has grown into one of Africa’s most decorated DJs, with landmark performances at Coachella and Glastonbury. Through his label TheCAP Music and hits like Nowo with Wizkid, he has consistently championed the globalization of Nigerian music. Eko Groove, recorded during his global tours, doubles as a love letter to Lagos and a testament to his artistic evolution.

Timaya on Hustling From Backup Singer to Afrobeats Royalty

Veteran Nigerian Dancehall artist Timaya reflected on his early career journey during an interview on the Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast with Joey Akan . He revealed that his debut album True Story was initially sold for just ₦500,000 to a marketer in Alaba International Market , a modest deal that became a turning point. The album’s success led the marketer to later gift Timaya ₦7 million for music videos and a car, recognizing him as “a good market.” Timaya’s second album Gift and Grace brought even bigger success, with Abu Ventures eventually securing the deal for ₦24 million , a sum previously only offered to top stars like 2Baba , P-Square , and D’banj . He credited this deal as the inspiration for his hit I Don Blow , marking his rise to mainstream fame.
