Ooni of Ife Hosts Asake and His Mum at Ile-Ife Palace in Emotional Homecoming

It was a proud and emotional moment in Ile-Ife as the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, welcomed Afrobeats star Asake and his mother to the ancient palace, describing the visit as a meaningful return home.

The monarch shared a video of the visit on his official X page, showing Asake alongside palace chiefs and dignitaries. In his message, the Ooni referred to the singer as his son and reflected on how Ile-Ife played a key role in shaping Asake’s journey long before global fame came calling.

“Today fills my heart with deep joy as I welcome my son, Asake, back home to Ile-Ife,” the Ooni wrote. “This sacred land is where he spent many of his formative years, moulded by hard work, discipline, and quiet determination.”

During the visit, Asake treated the palace to a live rendition of his hit song “Lonely at the Top,” drawing cheers from those present. The Ooni also presented him with a piece of artwork from his personal collection as a symbol of honour and pride.

Special praise was reserved for Asake’s mother, whom the monarch described as a strong and steady pillar behind the singer’s success. He thanked her for raising Asake with love, resilience, and strength, qualities that have clearly carried him this far.

The Ooni also acknowledged Asake’s management team, led by his manager Lala, praising their loyalty and dedication, which he said reflects the true Yoruba value of Omoluabi. He went further to appreciate Obafemi Awolowo University and Professor Toyin Ogundeji for contributing to the artiste’s growth and development.

Asake’s palace visit comes shortly after his return to Nigeria following two years abroad. The singer has also confirmed that he is now based in Los Angeles, marking a new chapter in his ever-rising global career.
