Olamide Inspired My Debut Album Stubborn — Victony
Victony has revealed that Olamide (Baddo) played a major role in pushing him to turn Stubborn into a full album.
The Soweto crooner shared this at a recent listening party for the project, ahead of its June 28 release. According to Victony, the YBNL boss didn’t just give him advice—he gave him the confidence boost he needed at the right time.
Originally, Stubborn was meant to be an EP because Victony didn’t feel ready to drop a full album. But one visit to Olamide’s house changed the whole plan.
“Stubborn was supposed to be an EP. I felt like I wasn’t album-ready,” Victony said.
“Before dropping the single, I went to Baddo’s house to seek advice like a big brother.”
What he thought would be a normal conversation turned into a wake-up call.
“Baddo told me, ‘You don’t want to drop a body of work when fans are no longer hungry for it.’
That line hit me. I see myself as a project artiste—that’s how people understand me best.”
Victony said that same day, the decision was made.
“I asked myself, ‘Why not? What’s holding me back?’ I even tweeted a picture with Baddo that day. That was when Stubborn officially became an album, not an EP.”
Victony, born Anthony Ebuka Victor, first blew up after linking up with Mayorkun on Holy Father. He’s currently signed to Mainland Block Party, the label owned by music executive Tobi Mohammed.
The upcoming 14-track album will feature Asake, Shallipopi, Shorae Moore, Saint Jhn, and Teezo Touchdown. Victony already gave fans a taste in May with the release of Stubborn, the lead single off the project.
Safe to say, when Baddo talks, artistes listen.
THANKS FOR UR TIME!!!
